How does infrared heating work?
An electric infrared panel emits heat, largely as radiation. Surfaces and people in the room absorb that radiation. The heated surfaces then also transfer heat to the environment. So there remains an interplay between radiation and air heating.
Comfort depends on the temperature and the location of the panel. A well-chosen mounting position ensures that the heat reaches the zone used.
Glass or metal?
A glass front offers options for reflection, color or an image. A metal panel has a calm, functional appearance and can be used on a wall or ceiling, depending on the design. Choice of material and finish determine the appearance; the heat requirement determines the required power.
The structure of a Welltherm panel
The heating layer, the front and the insulation at the back together form the panel. Welltherm describes its ESHC+ technology for the metal series: a heating layer between heat-conducting layers, with insulation on the back. This structure is intended to support the heat emission at the front.
What determines electricity consumption?
The power consumed multiplied by the effective switch-on time gives the electricity consumption. A 700-watt panel that is on continuously for two hours uses 1.4 kWh. That is a calculation example, not a prediction for your home.
Insulation, outside temperature, ventilation, desired temperature and use of the room determine how long heating is needed. General savings percentages therefore do not provide reliable personal advice.
Calculate your consumption and costs
Enter your room dimensions, use and own electricity price. The calculator makes the assumptions visible and immediately shows what changes.
A thermostat completes the installation
With a thermostat you set the desired temperature and, depending on the model, a time program. Control per room helps to better tailor use to your day. For app control, the thermostat, receiver and any bridge must be connected to each other.
From home to heating plan
A calculation of heat losses is required for main heating. For additional heating, we look at the comfort demand at the desired location. Available electrical capacity, mounting and safety distances are also taken into account.
